The first lambs from last week’s scan are starting to arrive — but it’s been an incredibly wet spring and conditions aren’t making life easy. Grass and shelter are good, but a simple job gathering winter fencing quickly turns into a proper mess when I manage to bury the quad in mud. Instead of calling for help, I try a bit of high-risk improvisation to get power back down to the 4WD — and put the scrap-built fence reeler to a real test in the process. Tommo (the real “high risk pilot”) joins me to move rams and fencing, and while we’re at it we take a look inside a serious dairy setup — 500 cows, robotic milkers, and a fully automated system that really is a glimpse of modern farming. Mud, machines, lambing and a few questionable decisions… but we get there in the end.
