Electricity (as evidenced by the nuclear symbol marked on the percussion instruments) serves as the central theme throughout the work, which is comprised of seven interconnected movements, much like the seven stages of disaster. Each movement explores the relationship between trust and distrust that the performer may have with the machine, which plays with the idea of short-circuiting the soundtrack in Praeluradium, making the bass drum jump in the Allemande, and subtly varying the tempos for the three musicians in the Courante, among other effects. This score is intended as a playful meditation on the issue of nuclear control and the danger of believing it can be mastered.
