This was shot two days before the infamous riot of 1986. It was party central in Palm Springs or Ft. Lauderdale West as CBS 8’s Jody Hammond called it. 10,000 college students converged on the desert community in 1986. No vacancy, no problem. Some kids weren’t too concerned about that—they could sleep in their cars. Police had their hands full keeping kids in line. Beer flasks, packed pools, rowdy behavior—all a rite of spring break passage. This video has it all and not a cellphone in sight. It was the 1980s and college kids just wanted to blow off steam, meet new people, and party. After the sun goes down, the nightly ritual was cruising down Palm Springs Boulevard.
