Today, I continue my series on the 36 decans of the zodiac with Virgo III, the last 10 degrees of Virgo. This part of the zodiac is a fascinating and complex place. It’s ruled by Mercury under the Chaldean order and Venus under the triplicity system of decanic rulership. Mercury, is exalted here, giving it a sharp, quick, and highly capable mental energy. But it’s also influenced by Venus, who’s in her fall in this decan, which gives this area of Virgo a bittersweet quality. In this video, we’ll talk about how these rulerships—Mercury’s exaltation and Venus’ fall—shape Virgo III. I’ll explain what it means when a planet is in its fall (and how that energy can feel like being an outsider) and also explore how this decan highlights the tension between striving for perfection and accepting the limits of the material world. A major theme here is individuation, a term coined by Carl Jung to describe the process of becoming whole. We’ll look at how this idea plays out in mythology, using the story of Odysseus from The Odyssey. His journey, with its triumphs and struggles, mirrors the Virgo III experience of stepping into life, confronting limitations, and growing through the process. We’ll also explore the Ten of Pentacles, the tarot card associated with this decan, and how its imagery connects to themes of legacy, manifestation, and the bittersweet reality of loss. From there, we’ll dive into the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, focusing on the movement from Yesod (the realm of dreams and intuition) to Malkuth (manifestation in the physical world). This transition reflects the journey of bringing ideas into reality—and the inevitable imperfections that come with doing so. To bring it all together, we’ll take a look at the birth chart of Steve Jobs, who had his rising degree in Virgo III. His life and work, including his involvement with Apple and Pixar, highlight the creative potential of this decan, as well as its challenges.
