In 1995, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón made his directorial debut with the Warner Bros. film, A Little Princess, based on the classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The film's plot takes place in 1914 when 10-year-old Sara Crewe (Liesel Matthews), privileged and free-spirited, is sent to a respected boarding school in New York after her British father, Captain Crewe (Liam Cunningham), enlists in World War I. Filled with wonderful stories, Sara becomes admired by her classmates but quickly conflicts with the severe headmistress, Miss Minchin (Eleanor Bron). The young girl's situation takes a serious turn for the worse when an unexpected tragedy occurs and is forced to live in servitude. Yet, Sara befriends her fellow servants and turns to the power of imagination to maintain hope for the future.
