We got a lot of comments and questions after our last video on scoliosis bracing (and a fair bit of misinformation), so let’s clear a few things up. First up, “Bracing doesn’t work.” Think of it like dental braces: over time, they guide your teeth into a straighter position. Scoliosis bracing works in a similar way — it gently and consistently guides your spine into a more natural alignment. While it’s true that scoliosis isn’t always completely “fixed,” with the right bespoke brace, the curve can often be slowed, corrected, and even reversed as you grow, helping you avoid surgery. Bracing is a clinically proven method of treatment, and we’ve published several research papers showing just how effective it can be. And if you're wondering what that looks like in real life, here you can see some of our patients’ X-rays before and after starting bracing treatment. “You will still need surgery if you wear a scoliosis brace” Not necessarily. A well-designed, custom 3D brace can often prevent a spinal curve from getting worse and in many cases, it reduces the need for surgery later on. Whether bracing alone is enough depends on a few key factors: the patient’s age, how severe the curve is, and how consistently they wear the brace during treatment. It’s true that some larger curves (typically over 40 degrees) might still require surgery. But for many patients, bracing can stop progression in its tracks — and that often means avoiding surgery altogether. “Braces only work for people with mild scoliosis.” Bracing is actually very effective for people with moderate scoliosis curves (typically between 20 and 40 degrees), and all of the patients we’ve treated with these curves have seen excellent results. #ScoliosisAwareness #ScoliosisBracing #SpineHealth #Orthotics #MythBusting #ScoliosisSupport
