How do we get our of our own way so that we can communicate with authenticity? There are many different reasons we engage in self-censorship: from fear of judgment to fear of consequences. Women especially have been acculturated to keep our voices down. “Don’t be too loud,” “Don’t rock the boat,” “Don’t be bossy.” I work with women who struggle with these narratives on a daily basis. What’s the real cost of holding ourselves back from self-expression? The biggest problem with self-censorship is that if you don’t communicate yourself, then you can’t iterate your personality. You can’t engage in the creative process of being. You can’t grow. I spoke to friend a food write, Marcia Gagliardi [ / tablehopper ]about self-expression. Marcia is perhaps best known in the food community as “the tablehopper.” Her cheeky biweekly e-column, archived on [tablehopper.com](http://tablehopper.com/), is chock-full of insider news and gossip about the San Francisco restaurant and bar scene, covering what’s hot, opening or closing, along with restaurant reviews, culinary events, and even star sightings. More than anything, I respect Marcia for being 1000 percent herself. I’m excited to share what Marcia has to say about authenticity and self-expression. Watch the video for your daily dose of authentic inspiration.
