We’ve all been inspired by the bravery, innovative tactics and sheer scale of the Hong Kong democracy movement – now we’re lucky enough to hear from two key leaders who have played critical roles in the Umbrella Movement and in the fight for democracy. Join us for a special edition of Australia at Home during the Virtual Progress summit with two leaders Hong Kong’s peaceful civil resistance movements: KINMAN CHAN (HK): The Umbrella Movement Kinman Chan was a co-founder of the 2014 pro-democracy Umbrella Movement where protesters successfully shut down Hong Kong streets and government headquarters to demand universal suffrage. He was one of nine activists convicted on "public nuisance" charges for participation in the mass protests and was released from prison earlier this year. BONNIE LEUNG (HK): Civil Human Rights Front (CHRF) Bonnie Leung is a democracy activist and a member of the Civil Human Rights Front, who organised the peaceful, multi-million person protests against Hong Kong’s controversial extradition bill last year. A former district councillor, she also served as an international spokesperson for the anti-extradition bill movement. This edition of Australia at Home was held as part of the 2-day Virtual Progress online conference.
