SUMMER to FALL WINDOW BOX: The MYSTERIOUS Fall Foliage of Lantana

I planted the window box third week in June. The purple lantana surprised and delighted me with purple foliage in October. Anthocyanins are red and purple pigments in plants that protect from sun and cold. These pigments become visible when the production of green chlorophyll is slowed down when temperatures drop. The green “tennis ball” looking fruit placed in the window box was dropped from the Osage Orange tree, the fruit given to me from my mom. Lantana is a long blooming annual in colder zones and perennial in warmer zones, a magnet to pollinators like butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. The purple lantana in my window box is Luscious Grape from Proven Winners. The yellow lantana is Luscious Golden Gate, also from Proven Winners. #garden, #gardening, #fallcontainers
