There are many areas where parents can make a difference including learning effective ways to teach consent education to their young and grown children with I/DD. This webinar will explore: Explore strategies for teaching consent to this your children Review tips for working with people with I/DD Examine why people with I/DD are at risk of sexual violence. The rate of sexual abuse among people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are staggering. This population is 7 times more likely to be abused than the general population and women with I/DD are 12 times more likely to be abused. Many of these individuals don’t receive sexuality education that is cognitively accessible to them and for many other reasons this puts them at risk. Parents education can make a big difference changing this somber reality and this webinar will focus on an important self-advocacy skill necessary for transition to adulthood.
