The evolving role of adjuvant therapy in renal cancer
Giacomo Musso, MD, IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy & UC San Diego School of Medicine, La Jolla, CA, discusses how adjuvant therapy in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has evolved, particularly following the KEYNOTE-564 trial (NCT03142334), which demonstrated improved overall survival following the use of pembrolizumab in high-risk patients. As a result, immune checkpoint inhibitors are now a standard of care, with strong recommendations from major guidelines. In the future, biomarker-driven patient selection and novel immunotherapy combinations may further refine and expand the use of adjuvant therapy in RCC. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
