How Do I Pick The Right Compressor? [FET, VCA, Opto, Vari-Mu]

Compression is incredibly simple, conceptually. However, in practice, it can be the most frustrating part of the mixing process. Additionally, one compression mistake can ruin what was otherwise a solid mix. In order to fully master the art of compression, we NEED to learn the differences between the four main types (or categories) of compressors. Today, I'll be giving you the basics on the four most common compressors in most studios, which include FET, VCA, Optical (Opto), and Variable Mu (Vari-Mu) compressors, along with what their strengths and weaknesses are.
