Aldo Bottion ( Melocchi student) Venice, 31st August 1933 – Montecarlo, 30th March 2009 Italian tenor born in Venice on the 31st August 1933. He was married to the soprano Gianna Galli. They sang together for many years. Galli retired early and owned then a theatrical agency. Bottion sang mainly in Italy (specially at the Teatro La Fenice, in Venice), as first tenor, from 1961 to early 1980. Then he started successfully a second career as comprimario tenor. Besides Italy, he sang in Vienna Staatsoper in 1965 (Don Carlo), in Malta at the Manoel Theatre in 1966 (Adriana Lecouvreur), in Madrid at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in 1967 (Traviata with Montserrat Caballé), in Lausanne in 1967 (Traviata, with Virginia Zeani), in Oviedo and Bilbao, in 1969 (Norma). Also in Lisbon in 1968 (Tosca) and 1969 (Fedora and Norma). In 1968 he sang in London the tenor part in Verdi's Requiem Mass. In 1970 in Pisano (Slovenia) (Verdi's Requiem Mass). Also in 1970 in Bregenz (Norma, with Cristina Deutekom), in Madrid again at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in 1971 (Nabucco with Elena Suliotis) and in 1971 at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House (Il tabarro, with Leontyne Price). In 1974 he was Cassio in the "Otello" recording, in Berlin, with Jon Vickers, Mirella Freni and Peter Glossop, Herbert von Karajan conducting. In 1984 he sang in Lugano (Arlecchino). As comprimario, he was Altoum in Turandot at the Beijing Forbidden City performances. He visited Japan in 2000 with the Monte Carlo Opera cast, singing in Traviata, in Nagoya, Tokyo and Osaka.
