Jamalabad Fort or Narasimha Gada is a historical fort located in Belthangady, Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, India. It is also called Gadai Kallu (huge granite rock) The fort is situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 1700 feet above sea level and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding Kuduremukh hill range. The fort was built by the famous King Tipu Sultan in the 18th century to secure his kingdom from the British. The fort is named after his mother, Jamalbee. Entry Fee: 50 Rs for Adults and 25 Rs for Children Timings: 7 AM to 6PM. Overnight stay is prohibitted. The fort is accessible through a steep climb of around 1.5 km, with a well-laid pathway. The trek is arduous but offers a beautiful view of the landscape. The road to the fort passes through dense forests, waterfalls, and rocky outcrops. There are steps and railings to help the visitors while climbing up the hill. The fort has a well inside, which is the prime source of water for the visitors. The fort and the surrounding countryside have a rich history of war and valor, and many stories are associated with it. Jamalabad Fort is a must-visit for history lovers and trekking enthusiasts.
