Positioned for Purpose: A Queen Prepared by God - Pt 1

Our series “Called to Rise in Leadership” on the story of Esther continues this week in chapter 2, as Mordecai overhears a plot to assassinate the king. On the surface, it looks like a small detail, but it becomes critical for God’s larger plan. Positioned at the king’s gate, a place of influence and authority, Mordecai acted with quiet faithfulness. His obedience in this moment shows us how God uses ordinary, hidden acts to prepare for extraordinary outcomes. 1. God Works in the Shadows When Mordecai reported the plot, he received no recognition or reward. To others, his loyalty went unnoticed, but not to God. Even in seasons where He seems silent, God is still present, recording every act of faithfulness. Our role is simple: obey Him and leave the results in His hands. 2. The Power of Small Faithful Acts Mordecai didn’t save the king for credit- he did it because it was right. In God’s kingdom, small, unseen acts of obedience carry eternal weight. We live in a culture that craves applause, yet the Lord calls us to serve faithfully behind the scenes in ways that may go unnoticed. 3. Divine Timing is Perfect Though Mordecai’s loyalty was forgotten for years, it was not overlooked by God. Delayed reward is not neglect- it’s strategy. Some blessings are held back until the moment they bring the most glory to God. His timing may stretch us, but it’s always purposeful, always perfect. 4. Faithful Influence in Secular Spaces Mordecai and Esther were two Jews in a pagan empire, yet God used them powerfully. In the same way, He calls us to be faithful where He’s placed us- whether at work, school, or a neighborhood that feels far from Him. What may seem like a secular setting becomes sacred ground when God’s people stand firm for His mission. Mordecai’s hidden obedience in chapter 2 prepares the way for his courageous stand in chapter 3. While society bowed to Haman, Mordecai refused. When crises arise, we shouldn’t panic; look for providence. God is always arranging deliverance behind the scenes. His story reminds us that God honors small acts done in secret, works through His perfect timing, and uses ordinary believers to make an eternal impact- even in the most difficult places.
