IPA Executive Director John Roskam in conversation with Batya Ungar-Sargon, American journalist and author of the new book Bad News: How Woke Media is Undermining Democracy. Batya and John discuss how the media has abandoned the working class. Its obsession with race and gender is a smokescreen to avoid addressing the real issues impacting the working classes such as job losses and opioid crisis. Batya also calls out woke media's hypocrisy in demanding more COVID lockdowns, when it was the working classes that suffered most from it. They also look at how the internet has transformed how news is produced and consumed; how media polarisation is a reflection of how stratified our societies have become; what the media’s reaction to Trump revealed about it; media’s response to COVID and the Ukraine crisis; and what can we all do to build a truer sense of the world that is missing from media reporting.
