Daily Operation: Ab-Soul Drops Control System (May 11, 2012)

On May 11, 2012, TDE's Ab-Soul defied the sophomore jinx on his second studio album, Control System. It was Soul's fourth full-length project, following his mixtapes Longterm, Longterm 2: Lifestyles of the Broke and Almost Famous, and his debut studio album, 2011's Longterm Mentality. Control System peaked at No. 91 on the Billboard 200, making it his first project to break into the top 100 albums on the Billboard 200. Standout tracks from this project include “ILLuminate” featuring Kendrick Lamar and “Terrorist Threats” featuring Jhene Aiko and Danny Brown.The album’s final cut, “The Book of Soul,” is one of Ab-Soul’s rawest songs. On it, Soul shared his thoughts on the death of his girlfriend, singer Alori Joh. The singer appeared on K-Dot's early songs “HiiiPOWER” and “Heaven & Hell,” as well as Ab-Soul’s “More of a Euphoria.” On Control System, Joh's voice blessed several tracks including "Empathy" and "A Rebellion." Joh fell from a radio tower in Compton on February 7, 2012. Her death was ruled a suicide. Ab-Soul dedicated Control System to Alori Joh’s memory.
