Inside an 8,000m Climb: Manaslu (8,163m)

This video was filmed during the Fall 2025 climbing season on Manaslu (8,163m), the 8th highest mountain in the world. I never originally intended to upload this to YouTube , it was filmed primarily for personal documentation, but after many friends and family asked what it’s really like to climb an 8,000-metre mountain, I decided to start Outdoor Pirate and share these experiences more regularly. Please be kind in the comments, this wasn’t filmed with YouTube in mind. Future uploads on Outdoor Pirate will be more YouTube-friendly, with improved storytelling, structure, and visuals. This film shows the reality of high-altitude mountaineering on Manaslu, from the physical and mental challenge of the summit push to life in the death zone above 8,000m. It’s raw and authentic rather than polished, but it reflects the real experience on the mountain. I climbed Manaslu with 8K Expeditions, who handled expedition logistics and support throughout the climb and played an important role in a safe and successful summit. The video begins at Crampon Point above Manaslu Base Camp on summit day, and follows the climb through to our return and landing back in Kathmandu (KTM) after the expedition. I already have many more outdoor adventure and expedition videos filmed and will be aiming to post weekly over the coming months, covering mountaineering, hiking, 4x4 travel, kite surfing, and life outdoors.
