The Pont du Gard, an impressive aqueduct located in the south of France, was built by the ancient Romans during the first half of the 1st century AD. The construction of the Pont du Gard bears witness to the extraordinary technical skill of the Romans. The aqueduct is a perfect example of Roman architecture and engineering. Its construction style is remarkable because it was built without the use of cement. Instead, an advanced system of carefully placed stones and arches was used to carry water across the landscape. The aqueduct consists of three levels, with the bottom tier having six large arches, the middle tier with eleven arches, and the top tier with 35 smaller arches. These arches were constructed using enormous blocks of limestone that fit together perfectly, without the need for mortar.
