Bring a swirl of vivid color to your wardrobe with a fun and easy tie-dye project. Make your T-shirt (or skirt, or socks -- you name it!) come to life with all kinds of groovy colors! SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/SubscribeMichaelsStores Supplies needed: White T-shirt (or other natural fiber garment or fabric) Tie-Dye kit or individual fabric dyes If not included in your tie-dye kit: Bottles with applicator tips Rubber bands Spray bottle Resealable plastic bag Latex gloves (optional, but helpful) Scissors (optional) (0:09) Step 1 - First, wash and dry your selected T-shirt. Be sure to choose a shirt made with only natural fibers since they absorb the dye more effectively than synthetic fibers. (0:22) Step 2 - Grab a bit of the fabric in the center of the shirt and twist it in a spiral motion until the whole shirt is bunched up into a big ball. (0:30) Step 3 - Secure the ball of fabric with several rubber bands. (0:43) Step 4 - Dampen the fabric with water. You can place the shirt ball in a bowl and use a spray bottle to evenly spray water all over the shirt. (0:52) Step 5 - Choose your colors. Dye each banded section of fabric with a different color. Dyeing is a messy business, so be sure to protect your work surfaces with a plastic covering and wear gloves. (1:13) Step 6 - Place your shirt in a resealable plastic bag for several hours. (1:24) Step 7 - Remove the shirt from the bag and rinse it under cold water until the water runs clear. (1:36) Step 8 - Take off the rubber bands. You can use scissors to make this job easier.
