Fallout 4 (Survival Mode) — Episode 59: “Mired in Mirelurks!” I’m back in Fallout 4 on Survival Mode, rolling with Dogmeat and Deacon—a duo I’ve affectionately (and immaturely) dubbed “the Double D’s.” Last time we wrapped up business at The Slog (the ghoul tarberry farm), got it stabilized, and now I’m staging out of Hangman’s Alley because our next objectives are close and I’m trying to keep this run efficient (and alive). What happens in this episode Survival-mode street fighting right out the gate We immediately get into trouble nearby and I’m reminded—once again—that Survival is basically “every corner is an ambush.” Clearing interiors and creeping through trap-city We go slow, we go careful, and of course I still eat a booby trap because the Commonwealth loves nothing more than punishing confidence. Loot management: the real endgame A big chunk of this episode is classic Survival Mode: what do I keep, what do I dump, and why am I carrying eight tons of garbage like it’s my job? Deacon being Deacon We have multiple moments where Deacon proves he’s either a tactical genius… or an absolute menace. (Also: yes, he changes disguises at the worst possible times, and yes, I notice.) Railroad errands explode into a full quest cascade We swing into Railroad territory and suddenly everybody and their toaster has a mission for me: Dead drops Agent Blackbird PAM sending me after a DIA cache And the Railroad’s big secret: “Patriot”—an inside contact in the Institute Faction paranoia, Minuteman priorities I’m officially juggling factions, but I’m thinking long-term: protecting people comes first. I’m delaying any major “warning the Brotherhood” moves until the last possible moment because I don’t trust them not to kick off something ugly. Spectacle Island + route planning I do some settlement/faction routing and prep: dump gear, stay fed/watered, keep rested, and line up the next objectives without getting myself killed en route. Blackbird’s fate (and the bad news) We track the lead, find the note, and… yeah. It’s not the outcome anyone wanted, but it’s information the Railroad needs. Episode vibe This one is pure Survival Mode Fallout: tense travel, messy fights, constant inventory triage, and the game aggressively trying to punish me for having a plan. Also: cameo appearances from my cat, because apparently today was a “sit behind me and try to push me out of my chair” day. Next time I’m strongly leaning toward heading back into the Institute to progress the Railroad line and get the “Patriot” thread moving—while still keeping an eye on the Brotherhood situation and deciding how (or if) I want to commit. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one.
