In this video I design, 3D print, and assemble a threaded heat-set insert press. It’s used for making clean and precise inserts in plastic parts. You’ll see my struggles through the entire process – from bad CAD model design choices to janky assembly of a DIY heat-set insert press. Heat-set threaded inserts are one of the best ways to create strong, reusable threads in plastic parts. Though installing them straight by hand can be tricky. This 3D printed insert press should make the process much easier by keeping the soldering iron aligned while pressing the insert into the part.
