Pan of news conference STORYLINE Visiting Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos met his South Korean counterpart Lee Myung-bak on Thursday to discuss the two countries'' ties as well as the Korea-Colombia Free Trade Agreement. Santos was welcomed by Lee in an official ceremony which took place at the presidential palace in Seoul. After signing a guestbook, the two leaders held a meeting to discuss how they can improve their strategic cooperative partnership ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2012. Later in the day, Santos attended a news conference in which he told the media that he has invited President Lee to Colombia ahead of the 50th anniversary. "We have agreed to proceed with the FTA negotiations so that it will be ready by the beginning of the next year," he said. On Wednesday, Santos visited the South Korean border village of Panmunjom in the heavily guarded Demilitarised Zone dividing the two Koreas. He also attended a ceremony commemorating the participation of Colombian forces in the 1950-53 Korean War. Colombia is the only country in Latin America that took part in the Korean War. The two Koreas technically remain in a state of war because the Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.
