Lighting design with a salutogenic approach is presented as a tangible solution to an often-intangible issue by experimenting with the eight dimensions of wellness identified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) namely: physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, social, occupational and financial wellness. The salutogenesis model referring to life experiences that help shape one’s sense of coherence through comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness is used as a basis. Additionally, a novel approach to bridging the common gap between high-concept design theory and practical construction-application solutions is presented, with positive value to the health, performance, quality-of-life and well-being. 🔹 Speaker Bio: Dr. Amardeep M. Dugar – Lighting Research & Design - Chennai, India Dr. Amardeep M. Dugar has been actively engaged in the domain of architectural lighting design since the year 2002. As a qualified architect, he champions the comprehensive aspects of lighting, encompassing design, education, and research. In 2010, he established Lighting Research & Design, a firm that embodies these principles. His academic journey includes obtaining a Master of Arts in architectural lighting from the University of Wismar in Germany, followed by a Ph.D. in the same field from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, which has further enhanced his stature as a leader in both academic and professional realms. Among his distinguished contributions to lighting design, Dr. Dugar has worked on significant projects in the commercial, healthcare and hospitality sector, which have garnered prestigious international accolades. Additionally, he was recognized as one of the 40-Under-40 Hottest Lighting Designers in the world by Lighting Magazine in 2016, underscoring his influence and recognition within the industry. In the realm of lighting education, he has imparted knowledge at various architecture institutions and has delivered lectures at numerous prestigious international conferences. His contributions to lighting research are noteworthy, having secured first place at the IISF 2016 – Young Scientists’ Conclave and published numerous articles in esteemed international journals. He is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and Lighting Designers Association of India (LiDAI), fellow member of the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) and the India Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE), and member of the Illuminating Engineering Society. He is also the co-founder of an online platform for lighting called the Virtual Lighting Design Community (VLDC). He currently serves on the IES Board of Directors, Chairs the IES Global Development Committee, and is Past President of the Lighting Designers Association of India (LiDAI).
