I didn’t have high hopes for the Ridge case when I first got it — another “premium” aramid-fiber cover hyped up by big creators. But after putting it through my full 30-drop test, I actually started to like it… until I found one red flag that completely changed my mind. I'm on a mission to find the best iPhone 17 Cases out there. I'm planning on reviewing 50 cases in order to figure out the Top 5. For the iPhone 17's, I've updated my scoring system to include accelerometer/gyro level drop test data to figure out which cases will actually protect your iPhone. Ridge Case Compatible with iPhone 17 PRO MAX - Compatible with MAGSAFE & Wireless Charging, Aluminum Control Buttons, Dual-Layer Construction, TPU Bumper with Drop Protection (Carbon) Review -this looks and feels like your typical Aramid fibre casey -glue aramid fiber to a plastic case -Ridge does add aramid fiber to the inside of the case which is nice -the case has a mild matte finish to it -the more you use it, the greasier it's going to look -case only weights 35g -only make your iPhone feel 41% larger -this is a tiny case -when it comes to corner drops, -this thing was amazing. -during the intial impact, this case only felt 7.2G's which is 30% lower than average -so that air gap on the back of the case acts almost like mini suspension -i didn't believe the first batch of test results, so I did it again -it's not an anomaly -the amount of rotation of the drop was 20% better than average -the settling rate was a hair below average. -Remember guys, this is a thin case, there's not much to it -now before you start the champagne showers -remember the floppy top? -yea, in a drop like this, iPhone screen makes contact with the table -SO....FAIL. -for the camera lump drop -most cases have a ridgid PC lip -this case has a TPU lip -so it does a great job of eating the initial drop -but it bounces a ton so it settles slower -and so the overall force going into the phone is a hair higher than average -SO, is a case that has amazing corner drop protection but fails with face first drop worth recommending? -this is a weird case in terms of durability -the corners of the case sit around 1.4mm -has really shallow but large air pockets so the actual TPU is only 1.2mm thick in the corner -and the back is only 1mm in the middle -but the frame right by the edge is closer to 1.4 -which means there's a small but thin air cavity between the back of the case and the iPhone -yea, there's a tiny bit of give -so this premium priced iPhone case DOESN"T FIT YOUR IPHONE LIKE A GLOVE... -the only other case that does this is the Apple Clear case BUT Apple does it better -NOW for you ridge lovers, don't fret, this air cavity isn't a bad thing -for rigidity, this case took 22.4N to bend at 8mm which means it's floppy -about 24% worse than the average case -blame the really soft top -for magsafe strength -took 9N to pull accessories off and 10.4 to push -borderline average overall MagSafe strength. (-4%) -wear and tear around the magsafe area is going to be noticeable -iPhone access is decent in the case -metallic buttons are flow through -have a slight round to them, feel different -the lip around the buttons are raised -which offers a different hand feel -large port cutout -and it's not too sharp
