It's always a good time on the Methow with good flows, the river was running at a good level so my buddy and I headed across the pass to link up with another group and have a fun time. We ended up linking up with another packrafter, an IK, a cat and a dory. We ran the Burma Road stretch upriver as an addition to the run, that video is separate and this video includes from Burma Road down to Pateros. From the bridge we enjoyed some small fun rapids and as soon as we went around the big rocky corner we were into the action. Black Canyon Rapid was fun and the holes are a bit friendlier than at lower flows, but the waves were big, fast and chaotic. We had one packrafter swim but the rest of us made it through without an issue. Staircase was fun and we took a short snack break on the beach below the rapid. After this the rapids kicked down in intensity a tad with Corner Rapids and Roadside Attraction but then picked up again at Bridge Rapids, which had some good bouncy waves. The river settles down a bit after Bridge Rapid but has some fun action down through the rest of the river, including Meteorite which had a good eddyline behind it. We cruised our way out on the swift flatwater to the takeout and helped the bigger boats out before heading home. We didn't encounter any major wood issues on the run and while this stretch is usually clear of wood there is always a possibility of something moving around. This video was taken on 5/17/2024 and the run took us roughly 3.5 hours with a half hour or so stop at the bottom of Staircase.
