The Soul Sounds Academy Choir is one of the many choirs from the Soul Sounds Academy founded in 2010, and consisting of young singers from the ages of 15 upwards. The choir was founded by its Artistic Director Soundarie David Rodrigo, and its objective is to promote choral singing in the country, including making choral arrangements of well known Sri Lankan songs and folk medleys, and also bettering their voices with individual training as well. Members of the choir constantly change, as we welcome new members every year. The choir has participated in the Llangollen International Musical Eistedfodd in Wales, 2010, the Asia Pacific Choir Games in Indonesia in 2013, the Asia Pacific Choir Games in Sri Lanka in 2017, the World Virtual Choir Festival in 2020, in addition to many concert performances here in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They have also been invited to sing at many functions in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The choir focuses on music of every genre from classical, gospel, pop, jazz as well as local music.The choir with its current members takes on assignments as a mixed choir for various events and functions. The Armed Man is a Mass by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, subtitled "A Mass for Peace". The piece was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum for the Millennium celebrations, to mark the museum's move from London to Leeds, and it was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. Like Benjamin Britten's War Requiem before it, it is essentially an anti-war piece and is based on the Catholic Mass, which Jenkins combines with other sources, principally the 15th-century folk song "L'homme armé" in the first and last movements. It was written for SATB chorus with soloists (soprano and muezzin) and a symphonic orchestra. Sanctus; Holy, in reference and reverence to the Blessed Sacrament, that represent the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
