It would seem as if weather like this, is no big deal to them. Steller's jays. With their vibrant blue and black feathers, spunky crest, loud calls, moving swiftly through the forest canopy. I encountered these birds in this same area about a year ago. I wasn't looking for them at that time, but they found me...and my bag of trail mix. I pulled it out to have a snack when suddenly, I became very popular with the local flock. They had been watching me. Silently and hidden, high up in the conifers, they knew exactly what they were doing. Up until this point, I didn't even know they were there. I returned this year with the hopes of studying them and sure enough, they showed up. Of course, this was also with the help of a good supply of peanuts that I provided.
