In this video we look back at raw footage of what an average day is like inside a maximum-security juvenile prison as well as a special prison unit inside a maximum-security adult prison. Many teens tell us one of the hardest things about life behind bars is the boredom they experience every day. The first scenes in this video feature a cell block inside a juvenile prison as dozens of teens sit in their prison pod hanging out, playing cards and getting into verbal spats with each other as they serve their days behind bars. Cameras then capture a teen being hand cuffed and walked out of his cell and walked across the prison yard to a segregation unit after he was accused of being part of a fight earlier in the day. We then transition to a maximum-security adult prison where our cameras went inside the prison's PLUS Unit -- a unit where prisoners make quilts that the state donates to various charities and organizations. The unit is a special unit that prisoners must apply to get into. Only those with exemplary behavior are accepted into the unit. It is a prison unit that is typically quiet, organized, and considered to be the best unit to serve time while inside this maximum-security facility. The video ends with scenes back inside the juvenile facility prison yard, where teens who are part of the prison's Future Soldier Program march across the yard heading back to their cell units. Similar to the P.LUS unit in the adult prison, the Future Soldier Program is comprised of teens who must apply to get into the unit, and must have excellent behavior during their time behind bars to be accepted into the program. The end of the video features a short interview with one of the military officers who helps supervise this unit, discussing the kids he works with on the unit, the stories he hears from incarcerated teens, and his goal of helping youth stay out of the prison system once they're released from their time behind bars.
