Right now, the Gambia is in the middle of a giant wave of deforestation. Between 2013 and 2020 1.6 million rosewood trees were cut (in Gambia and Senegal) and exported to China. Musa and Kevin shot a short documentary for the BABAO Foundation to show everybody what is going on. In his village Kartong deforestation is threat number one when it comes to vanishing groundwater. ''Trees manage our groundwater level, but now people are cutting trees in big numbers we can see the water level drop significantly. Only by stopping the deforestation and growing trees we can repair this damage that we do. Our grandparents planted these trees. We are destroying what our ancestors have built.
