Does the “perfect” general purpose rifle exist??? Absolutely, it might surprise you to see what defines a GP rifle and the characteristics of a GP rifle. The GP rifle should fulfill multiple mission sets such as: self-defense, home defense, urban defense, training, traveling and hunting to name a few. It must perform above average and therefore it boils down to the features and characteristics. We break it down into caliber, weight, barrel, trigger, sights, accessories, lights and slings. Jeff gives an in-depth overview drawing from his over 30 years of experience with rifles. Keep in mind, the point behind the video was to define the mission, the set out to find the “best” equipment to support the mission. Caliber is all about availability and cost. Weight has to with overall performance and it matters. The barrel is the heart of the rifle and helps make it easy to train and travel. The trigger is an easy upgrade to boast performance. Sights are tricky, but going down the LPVO road best fulfills the mission sets. But, backup iron sights are still essential. When adding accessories, ask yourself if they are needed and if so select the lightest you can afford. The weapon mounted light is easy to get derailed. Remember the mission and keep it light, find the best and lightest light you can afford. Adding the sling allows for transporting, supporting and administrative tasks.
