The Imperial Palace of Felix Romuliana is located in the vicinity of the village of Gamzigrad, 11 km north-west of Zaječar, and is widely regarded as the main pillar of the cultural tourism development in eastern Serbia. Galerius (Gaius Galerius Valerius Maximianus) is one of the sixteen Roman emperors born in the area that belongs to the territory of Serbia today. At his place of birth, which was a major urban settlement built on the territory inhabited since prehistoric times, Galerius built this magnificent palace and dedicated it to his mother Romula. Danube Trail on the 'Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route' is a cultural & wine tourism journey along the amazing destinations in Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania, offering a unique experience of exploring vivid Roman heritage surrounded with beautiful landscapes. The Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route, with its Danube and Adriatic Trails, extends through nine European countries and it is a network of sub-destinations, created around individual archaeological sites, locations, places and buildings, which are monuments to the leadership of the Roman emperors in Late Antiquity.
