ImmersionRC Powerplay : external DVR and battery pack for FPV goggles

The PowerPLAY from ImmersionRC combines a high quality DVR with a screen and a battery case with a power button. To get the DVR part out of the way, it is actually very good. The DVR recordings have a nice, crisp image and are properly timestamped - both the filename and the metadata of the file itself. This is what the built-in DVR of Fatshark (and other) goggles should be like. My DVR footage from 3 different quads had the right resolution for PAL (720×576) but less bitrate (8k) and frame rate (~50fps) than I expected. The rest does not impress, me at least, and leave a lot to be desired. The choice to design the unit around 18500 battery cells limits it to low capacities and pilots that already use 2500mAh+ packs will immediately feel the difference. The included cells are useless and that's ImmersionRC's words, not mine. The higher overall power consumption, the low capacity of the 18500 cells and the "broken" low voltage alarm of Fatshark goggles result in an annoying user experience. On top of that, if you are not an X-Lite user or use vapes, you probably don't have any 18500 cells to use - compared to 18650 which is more standard for our hobby. Using the PowerPLAY made me feel that usability was left aside. As of Nov'19 available firmware, there is no way to turn OFF the screen when used in my pocket, it does not let me delete just one recording, the scroll wheel does not repeat the input if you move+hold (when setting date/time or scrolling through recordings) etc. Simple things that affect user experience right from the beginning. As for the "it's nice to have a monitor on your head for others to spectate" argument… c'mon… OTG receivers and FPV watches are far more user friendly. I am looking forward to the 18650 case mods and hope that most annoyances will be fixed via firmware.
