The legendary 1985 Mount Union Football Team, under the leadership of M Club Hall of Famer and 1985 OAC Coach of the Year, Head Coach Ken Wable, celebrated numerous firsts in Mount Union's history. They secured the team's first OAC Championship, advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time, won the first NCAA Playoff game in school history, and achieved the program’s first undefeated regular season. Mount Union clinched at least a share of the OAC Championship with a 14-3 home victory over Baldwin Wallace and secured the conference championship outright with a 24-3 win at Muskingum to close out the regular season. The Purple Raiders then triumphed over Denison in the opening round of the NCAA Playoffs with a dominant 35-3 win. The 1985 team was led by senior captains Scott Woolf, Tony Tarantino, and John Heather. Over 40 years, from the 1985 season to the 2024 season, the Purple Raiders orchestrated a remarkable overall record of 494-35-3 (.931), with historic success including 35 OAC Championships, 35 NCAA Playoff appearances, and 13 National Championships—all records. Documentary produced, including interviews, by Mount Union Director of Athletic Communications Nate LaRiccia. Game video footage provided by Image Video.
