VOICE-OVER: 00.02 The Charge d'Affairs of the Afghan Embassy visited Beijing's Badaling Wildlife Park on Tuesday to see the two lions and discuss procedures for moving them to Kabul. 00.13 The two, a male Zhuangzhuang and a female Kelly, were both raised in the park, which is home to a total of 84 lions. 00.25 They will replace Marjan, the famous one-eyed lion of Kabul zoo. Marjan's hard life had become a symbol of Afghanistan's years of troubles, until his death in January only a few months after the city's liberation. Now that Kabul has thrown off its shackles its people can once again begin to enjoy themselves. 00.46 SOUNDBITE (English) Abdul Basir Hotak, Counsellor and Charge de Affairs of Afghanistan Embassy in Beijing "In Afghanistan, after so long time of instability and the dark rule of Taliban and terrorists, and the people were very bored there, you know, and I think the entertainment for the people is very important there." And Zhuangzhuang and Kelly can be sure of comfortable accommodation when they get to Kabul. After widespread reporting of Marjan's plight, zoos around the world raised 400 thousand dollars for the construction of a new Kabul zoo. The Afghan government hopes the Chinese lions and their new home will also become a symbol - this time of Afghanistan's rebirth. 01.25 ENDS Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
