Engadget Interview and Weekend Experiments

In this video, Chris Maddox explained the progress pertaining to the experiments conducted during the course of the weekend. Chris Maddox went into detail regarding the 2 events which took place over the course of this said time period, them being 2 independent events. The first event was the Engadget interview conducted with members of LiftPort including Michael Laine present, which was about the progress and objective that LiftPort pursued wholeheartedly. The second event was an experiment conducted sequentially in order to test pre-selected fiber candidates necessary in carrying out the seamless execution of the operations for the Space and Lunar Elevator concept prototype. During the interview phase, additional explanations regarding the 3 prototype robots for the Space and Lunar Elevator were added with relation to the experimentation which was soon to be followed in sequence. It was mentioned that reductions in size and complexity of these robots coupled with the development in tech, with relation to the production of these Space and Lunar Elevator prototypes, were mentioned in chronological order and detailed in the video. It was mentioned that while the “Damocles” prototype was considerably bigger and more complex, the “Cinderella” prototype excelled in compactness and relevant tech regarding the prototype operations for the Space and Lunar Elevator concept. Chris Maddox was also responsible for the appropriate explanation of the progress of experiments done over the weekend during the course of this video. The experiment that took place over the course of the weekend was initiated in order to experiment and validate adequate materials to support the necessary tensile strength required for the successful and seamless operation of the Space and Lunar Elevator prototypes. This was required in order to lay the basis of seamless operations required in space, for repairs would be difficult once built in the Cislunar space region. Candidates of experimentation in relation to selecting the adequate materials for their optimal tensile strength were selected and tested. This was to discover the best candidate material displaying the best levels of tensile strength within identical experimentation parameters. This was necessary for the Space and Lunar prototypes. These materials were Nylon, Vectran, and Kevlar respectively. The experiment itself was done with a shipping container and utilizing a hitch at the same time. Testing the tensile strength for the individual materials was measured via a digital gauge that converted the tensile strength force into electric signals which were then converted into numbers. Michael added that the results of these tests were of significant importance albeit the limited experimentation parameters on Earth that fail to provide relevant conditions in actual space environments. Michael also mentioned that he was in the thought process of acquiring a strong candidate of the 3 materials of Nylon, Vectran, and Kevlar, all of which are in the right strength and form factors. #SpaceElevator #LunarElevator #BetterFutures www.liftport.com www.betterfutures.space Acknowledgements @mlaine on twitter Location: Seattle and Tacoma in Washington State
