We are thrilled to announce our latest Art360 Film, on the artist David Ward. We've been working with David through our Art360 bursary programme since 2016. In this short film, David discusses the significance of light, architectural space, language, collaboration and movement across his multi-faceted practice. He asks how an artist might define themselves in relation to the conventions of the day, and discusses the role of the archive in making connections and associations between his works visible, across “arcs of time”. "I'd like to think that the way the archive is shaping up, embodies something of the openness that I seek to sustain in the work that I do" - David Ward Film produced by David Bickerstaff. David Ward (b. 1951) attended Wolverhampton School of Art (1968 – 69) and Winchester School of Art (1969 – 1973). He lives in Wiltshire, UK. He is known for his work in a range of light and time based media including installation, photography, performance, film, sound and painting. He is also known for his collaborations with other artists, choreographers, architects and composers. The body and the dynamics of light are central to his work, together with elemental themes of the natural world relating to a wide range of contemporary and historical references and associations. David has been Artist-in-Residence at King’s College, Cambridge, Harvard University, Durham Cathedral and was a Research Fellow at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds. He also writes, curates exhibitions (including as a selector of The British Art Show 3) and has taught widely, including at Goldsmiths’ College, London (1987-95), Glasgow School of Art (1995-97), the Architectural Association, London (1998-2005) and at the Department of Architecture, Westminster University, London (1998-2005). https://www.davidward-artist.co.uk/
