David Garrigues's 2020 fall course, ASANA PRINCIPLES THE MASTER KEY, begins September 12th and meets every Saturday until November 28th. Practice live with David or later to the recording on your own. 👉🏽 www.davidgarrigues.com. Grow strong and dexterous in Forearm Balance by working with a smart set of baby steps that I show you in this series of videos. Keep in mind these are challenging and you can start with a Head Balance foundation to build up the strength to do them in Forearm Balance. #1) Success will be yours if you do every step placing highest value on maintaining the vertical stack of your ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, and elbows. Some examples are sucking one or both thighs to the chest, taking Lotus with a flip move or lowering part of the way with a clear, decisive move and coming back up with an equally dynamic move. #2) Whether you are kicking up into your pose or flipping your leg into Lotus learn to perform every smallest transition as a gesture that includes these 3 phases: 1) a set up for action 2) pure, bold action 3) an arrival at a distinct stopping place. #3) Foundation First: making your legs and arms both long and strong is a great secret key that will help you succeed. #4) Use Asana Principle #5 Free your Breath Know the power of breath by the simple action of synchronizing your breathing with lowering and coming back up. #5) What not to do Avoid having your legs back beyond the vertical axis when you are in Pincha Mayurasana and when taking your legs into Lotus. Otherwise you waste precious time and energy, reinforce poor postural habits and risk straining your neck, shoulders, or back.
