In VSA Future intensive Summer Evening Programs, students can superboost their vocabulary and reading comprehension! Vocabulary is an essential component of language which helps children not only to read confidently but to understand what they are reading. A strong vocabulary makes speaking, writing, and overall communicating more effective. Building a robust vocabulary is a skillset that children must master to find success in their academic career and beyond. The larger their vocabulary, the more they are able to fully understand text from word problems, literature as well as the contents of words they encounter in everyday life. However, many public schools have strayed away from teaching strictly vocabulary lessons. VSA Future Reading Program and Vocabulary Program aims to cultivate a well-rounded set of reading and vocabulary skills in students that will enable them to succeed as learners, thinkers, and writers. VSA has developed a summer reading comprehension and vocabulary program that uses a scientific approach to help children master vocabulary through reading, while building connections from Greek and Latin roots. By understanding English’s Greek and Latin roots, children can then unlock all of the new words they encounter with the same root. They also focus on identifying synonyms, parts of speech and applying the words correctly in their writing.
