The Story: This AC unit had a massive electrical fire. The wires were melted, the motor was burnt, and the heart of the machine (the compressor) was dead. Most people would throw this away and spend thousands on a new one. I decided to save it. What I did (Step-by-Step): Cleanup: I took the whole unit apart and cleaned off all the black soot and burnt plastic. New Heart: I removed the old, burnt compressor and welded in a brand-new 3-ton compressor. New Fan: The old fan motor was melted from the heat, so I installed a new condenser fan motor to keep the unit cool. Total Rewire: I threw away the burnt wires and built a brand-new electrical system with a new capacitor and switch. The Vacuum: I used a special pump to suck out all the air and moisture from the pipes. This is the most important part! Fresh Gas: I filled it with new refrigerant (gas) and checked the pressure.
