Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers is expressing his frustration with County Commissioners and the County Administrator after he did not receive the money he requested for the Sheriff's Office budget in 2025-2026. The budget year begins October 1, 2025. In a message posted on Facebook, Sheriff Flowers says he got $5 million less than what he needs to keep people safe. "I never thought that in 2025 in the United States of America, in the State of Florida and especially in Indian River County that we would ever see the defund the police movement come to our hometown. The County Commission has made the decision to not properly fund our operation," Sheriff Flowers said.
