With this core group of anglers and adventure enthusiasts looking to push the limit of their boats, they have also created the cottage industry of getting further with the same gear. Until recently, the distance a kayaker could travel was limited to how far they could paddle. When pedal drives were introduced, kayakers could increase their distance by using their most powerful muscle groups. Bixpy has taken kayakers even further with purpose-built motors and other high-tech equipment designed exclusively for small watercraft. During a fishing trip in 2014, Houman Nikmanesh was exhausted from peddling his Hobbie kayak against the tide off the coast of San Diego. Nikmanesh got home eventually and was determined to find an option that would let him and other bluewater kayakers safely fish offshore without the risk of exhaustion.
