Lassen Volcanic National Park: A bitesize guide to some of the best spots to explore

We recently visited Lassen Volcanic National Park in California and were blown away by what we saw. As one of America's least visited National Parks it has this sense of solitude here, even sometimes on the main park Highway. This video gives a brief overview of some of the best places to check out for adventure lovers in and around the park. Everything we've listed below and in the video above is detailed extensively in our guide to Lassen Volcanic, which includes hiking maps, best times to visit, camping, backpacking at more. Be sure to visit our full guide on our blog, This Expansive Adventure. Link: https://www.thisexpansiveadventure.co... In partnership with Visit California, here are some highlights in Lassen Volcanic that you're going to want to add to your list: Brokeoff Mountain: Considered one of the more challenging hiking routes in Lassen Volcanic, however you'll be rewarded with stunning views. Lassen Peak: The National Park's namesake trail. It's considered challenging as its at altitude and involves a decent amount of ascent, but on clear days the views are simply out of this world and you'll be able to see over to Mt. Shasta too. Bumpass Hell: Fantastically named, this hike takes in some of the most interesting geothermal activity areas in the park. Even if you don't fancy hiking right down into the crater, you can get great views from the observation point above. Be sure to spend some time enjoying the views from the hike in and out too - they're just as good as the end point! Lassen Backcountry Discovery Trail: If you're looking for something more remote, you can take on the Discovery Trail - a 4x4 route that travels through some of the most stunning landscapes in the area. This trail can be broken down into smaller segments and completed as multi days. You can also set up camp near various areas like the Thousand Lakes Wilderness and hike in. Thousand Lakes Wilderness: Just outside the National Park, but well worth a visit. This area is great if you love your solitude! Cinder Cone and Painted Dunes and Butte Lake: Off from the main park highway, you'll find the Cinder Cone, Painted Dunes and Butte Lake. Butte Lake is excellent for swimming. The Cinder Cone Trail itself is challenging once you reach the crater but you can stick to turning around at the base if you prefer - you'll still get great views of the painted dunes! Manzanita Lake, Lake Helen, Emerald Lake and Lake Helen: Lassen Volcanic has some of the most stunning alpine lakes filled with cold water which is great for a refreshing dip. You can generally swim in all of the lakes in the National Park, provided local signage doesn't day otherwise. Chaos Crags: fantastically named due to the disruption they caused to the landscape - this is a brilliant area to explore near Manzanita Lake. We hope you enjoyed watching the beautiful vistas that make up Lassen Volcanic National Park and be sure to check out our full and in depth guide to the area in our article here: https://www.thisexpansiveadventure.co...
