Hirantha's Instrumentals.. • Hirantha's Instrumentals At STPS Bandarawela, the school in the misty hills of Sri Lanka - with colours of dark blue, light blue and gleaming white, where one reminded oneself that Lord is My Shepherd, during the late Mr SLA Ratnayake's Headship, all pupils were given a tiny light blue booklet with a collection of patriotic songs from all three languages; Sinhala, Tamil and English. A song from this booklet was sung at every school assembly, followed by the school song. One such English song was sung to the tune of the evergreen Danno Budunge but had lyrics that described the beauty of Sri Lanka, or Ceylon, perhaps as was known at the time the words were penned. I do not know who wrote these words and cannot remember if the book contained that detail. My ageing data bank has the first few lines as... O farthest isle beloved Of fairest Indian dawn O jewel of the ocean O island of Ceylon In every verdant village ..... You are welcome to add what you remember and collectively complete the song ..... Played on ... • Yamaha DX7 IID, Yamaha FC-5 Foot Controller, Proel Expression Pedal with • Roland SCD-70 Sound Canvas Tone Generator and • Yamaha AM802 Stereo Mixer and • Turtle Beach MIDI Orchestrator Pro MIDI Sequencer running on laptop.
