This was one of the most difficult projects I've ever finished for this channel. I love Ace Attorney, I love the Steel Samurai and all the lore bits Capcom dropped here and there in all the games, but I never imagined a cover of the Steel Samurai theme would take so much of my energy. At first I just thought it was gonna be a fun, cheeky over-the-top thing... My first objective with this cover was to recreate the over-the-top epicness you can find in old-school japanese tv-shows, specifically tokusatsu. However, as the arrangement took form, it became clear to me I wanted to make this something more, and decided to try and squeeze into it a lot of what I love about Japan. I think what stands out the most about my cover are the long stretches of music where the real protagonists are the Shamisen, Taikos, Kakegoe (traditional japanese chants), Shakuhachi and a whole range of instruments used in Kabuki music. This took a lot of research and I learned a lot during the process. I hope you'll enjoy the result! The music video was also a huge challenge: making an arrangement that feature guitar-less parts means I have to work something out so the video doesn't get boring. The video took a lot of trial and error to get right, but in the end I like the result: I managed to squeeze in a lot of japanese symbols I love, ukiyo-e prints, temples, nature... Even the circle with the 5 instruments was inspired by Raijin, which is often depicted with a circle of taiko drums behind his back. All of this to say, this project took a lot out of me, and I hope at least some of the passion that went into it comes through the other side. Thanks so much for watching this video. #aceattorney #steelsamurai #gamemusic #japanesemusic
