(13 Sep 1996) T/I 11:06:35 While the United States and Iraq kept up an appearance of confining themselves to a war of words on Friday (13/9) several American F-16 fighter jets were seen taking off from the NATO airbase at Incirlik, Turkey. The base has been used for the control of the no-fly zone above Northern Iraq since the restricted area was imposed at the end of the Gulf War by the allied coalition. Several F-16s took off and at least four were seen landing. An AWAC, which is a flying command control centre for air battles was also seen taking off.
