Lupe Thompson is always on the go, attending every single sports event in her tight-knit community in Ketchikan, Alaska. But incontinence was getting in the way of what she loved to do the most. Thompson spoke with Dr. Suzette Sutherland, UW Medicine’s director of female urology, who told her about a new and improved device that would re-regulate the bladder and bowel back to normal function. “We know there is a very high percentage of patients simply not seeking treatment. We are treating just the tip of the iceberg,” Sutherland said. “We see commercials, with celebrities, talking about ‘the freedom that living with pads provides’. Why live in pads when there are simple, reliable treatments available which will get you out of those pads?” Now, Thompson is back to doing what she loves, without worry.
