In this video, you will learn how to assemble Amphenol's USB FIELD connector, a rugged USB connector designed for applications in harsh and demanding environments. With USB Field, users can insert a standard USB 2.0 or 3.0 cord into a metal plug that will protect it from shock, dust and liquids. No dangerous field wiring or grounding is required. A version with a plug and cord is also available. The metal plug is connected to a receptacle using a Tri Start threaded coupling mechanism (type MIL-DTL-38999 Series III) with an anti-decoupling device for high vibration. These connectors are based on the MIL-DTL-38999 series III standard and feature a threaded locking mechanism to ensure a secure and reliable connection. They are also sealed against fluids and dusts to an IP68 rating, making them suitable for use in demanding applications such as military avionics, grounded vehicles, and battlefield communication. The USB Field connectors offer improved EMI protection, and their tri-start thread coupling mechanism features an anti-decoupling device to prevent accidental disconnection. They are available in shell size 15 and come with two mechanical coding/polarization options (receptacle insert rotation).
