A 58-year-old male with a history of liver cirrhosis presents with acute gastrointestinal bleeding symptoms - deglobulisation and melena. During the endoscopic procedure, gastric varices are identified as the source of bleeding. Due to the history of liver cirrhosis and the presence of gastric varices, it is decided to apply glue to occlude the varices. Glue Application Procedure: Using a injection needle the cyanoacrylate glue is carefully injected into the identified varices. Following administration, cyanoacrylate polymerized and exerts its effects instantly within 20s. Glue is always mixed with lipiodol as a solvent in the ratio 1:1 or 1:1.6 for 2 reasons: first, to avoid glue solidifying in the needle itself; second, because lipiodol is radio-opaque, it can be traced under fluoroscopy to confirm the filling of the varix and to detect embolization. In conclusion, gastric variceal glue application is an effective procedure for patients with liver cirrhosis presenting portal hypertension with gastric hemorrhage.
