Wide of people waiting outside morgue STORYLINE: A mortar attack struck a Shiite neighbourhood in a Sunni-dominated town south of Baghdad on Monday, killing ten civilians, including women and children, police said. The mortar rounds rained down on the neighbourhood in Jurf al-Sakhar, 70 kilometres (43 miles) south of Baghdad, in the morning, said local police. Police gave the death toll as ten killed, including three children and four women, and five wounded. Their estimate contradicted an eyewitness at the scene, who put the death toll at eleven, with three wounded. The injured were taken to hospital in the nearby town of Musayyib, where a wounded boy lay next to his blood-stained father. In the hospital morgue six bodies could be seen covered with blankets.
